Refund policy
HF Atelier Returns & Exchanges Policy
At HF Atelier, every piece is handcrafted to order with precision, care, and respect for materials. Because our work is custom-made and tailored to each project, we do not offer refunds or returns once production has begun.
We stand behind our craftsmanship and are committed to fair, transparent resolutions when issues arise.
Custom & Made-to-Order Items
- Final Sale: All custom and made-to-order furniture pieces are final sale and non-refundable.
- No Cancellation After Start: By placing a custom order, the client acknowledges HF Atelier will procure materials and schedule labor upon payment. Once materials are ordered or production has begun, the order cannot be cancelled or refunded.
- Issue Window: If there is a concern with fit, finish, color variance, or construction, contact us within 7 days of delivery so we can review and determine the best resolution.
- Review Timeline: We review all reported issues within 3–5 business days and communicate next steps promptly.
Damages or Defects (Shipping vs. Manufacturing)
- All items are thoroughly inspected prior to leaving our Los Angeles studio.
- Transfer of Ownership: Once the carrier accepts the shipment, ownership and liability transfer to the client.
- Shipping Damage: Inspect all items at delivery and document any damage with photos of the packaging and the item. Report shipping damage within 48 hours of receipt so we can initiate a carrier claim.
- Manufacturing Issues: If an error attributable to HF Atelier falls outside normal handmade variation, we will correct or remake the piece at our cost.
Natural Variations & Handmade Character
Slight variations in color, grain, or texture are natural characteristics of handcrafted processes and materials-especially genuine leather, natural fabrics, and hand-applied finishes. These are not defects but part of the unique character of your HF Atelier piece.
We use real, genuine leather, which often carries natural markings and character from the animal’s life. Our goal is to honor that life by giving it a beautiful new purpose. Every hide is unique-subtle variation in tone, grain, and texture is to be expected. Subjective dissatisfaction or changes of mind are not grounds for return or refund.
Each piece is made by human hands in our Los Angeles studio. Small variations may occur from piece to piece; we value these nuances while maintaining strict quality standards. If any inconsistency falls outside acceptable handmade variation, we will gladly correct it.
Revisions & Adjustments
- Leather Relaxation: Leather is intentionally sewn with a slightly snug fit and will naturally relax and soften with use. Initial tightness is normal and not considered a defect.
- Samples & Client Approval: Material, finish, and color selections approved from samples are considered final. Minor tonal or textural variation may occur between a small sample and a full-scale piece due to dye lots, lighting, and surface area; this is not grounds for return.
- Design Changes After Approval: Changes requested after production or delivery-such as new color choices, dimension revisions, or re-selections-are treated as new orders and billed accordingly.
- Studio Responsibility: If HF Atelier makes an error outside normal variation, we will correct or remake at our cost.
- Good-Faith Courtesy: At our discretion, we may offer one complimentary minor revision as a courtesy; any further revisions are billed at standard production rates.
- Client Responsibility: Clients are responsible for verifying all measurements, site conditions, colors, and specifications prior to approval. HF Atelier is not liable for client-provided mismeasurements or changes of mind after production starts.
Custom Orders, Payments & Chargeback Policy
- Non-Refundable Custom Work: All HF Atelier pieces are made to order and non-refundable once materials are ordered or production begins.
- Good-Faith Collaboration: We encourage open communication to resolve genuine issues directly and amicably.
- Unlawful/Fraudulent Chargebacks: Filing a false chargeback for an approved custom order may constitute fraud under U.S. law (see FTC Act §5 (15 U.S.C. §45) and 18 U.S.C. §1343 - Wire Fraud).
-
Valid Dispute Scope (FCBA): Under the Fair Credit Billing Act (15 U.S.C. §1666 et seq.), consumers may dispute charges only when a merchant fails to deliver goods or services contrary to the written agreement and approved specifications on record.
HF Atelier fulfills all custom orders in accordance with client-approved drawings, material selections, and communications. Subjective dissatisfaction or buyer’s remorse does not constitute failure to deliver as agreed and therefore does not qualify for chargeback reversal. - Documentation: HF Atelier maintains full records (approvals, communications, production photos, delivery receipts) and provides them to card issuers in dispute cases.
- Enforcement: Fraudulent disputes may be reported to the payment processor and issuing bank and may be actionable as civil fraud or theft by deception under applicable state and federal law. HF Atelier reserves the right to pursue recovery, including collections or legal action, for dishonest chargebacks.
- Track Record: Due to our own integrity policy, our clear documentation and compliance with FTC and banking regulations, HF Atelier has successfully won 100% of the very few disputes we have had in 11 years.
