Shipping policy
All Atelier HF pieces ship from our studio in Los Angeles, California. Because every piece is made to order and varies in size, weight, and destination, shipping is quoted per project rather than charged at a flat rate.
This page outlines how shipping works, what to expect at delivery, and how we coordinate with installers and international destinations.
For production timelines — the time required to fabricate your piece before it ships — see Production Policy.
How Shipping Is Quoted
Shipping is calculated and quoted at the time your order is approved, based on:
- Piece dimensions and weight
- Destination address
- Service level required — freight, white-glove, or local delivery
- Access conditions at the delivery address
- Any installation coordination required
You will receive the shipping quote in writing before final order approval. Shipping is paid separately from the deposit and is due before the piece is released from the studio.
Service Levels
Freight (curbside delivery)
Standard freight delivery for pieces shipped via commercial carrier. The carrier delivers to the curb or driveway of the destination address. The client is responsible for moving the piece into the home or installation site. Recommended for trade and contractor projects where on-site labor is already available.
White-glove delivery
Two-person team delivery into the room of choice, with light unpacking and packaging removal. Available for most U.S. destinations. Recommended for residential clients and any installation requiring careful handling — banquettes, sofas, headboards, large benches. Quoted based on destination, access, and complexity.
Local delivery
Available within 50 miles of our Los Angeles workshop. Scheduled directly with the studio after the piece is complete. An additional fee applies, quoted at the time of order based on destination and piece size. Local delivery includes delivery into the room of choice; it does not include installation.
Production Time vs. Transit Time
Shipping does not begin until production is complete.
- Production: 9 to 12 business weeks from order approval. See Production Policy.
- Transit: Calculated separately. Freight transit is typically 7 to 14 business days within the continental U.S. White-glove transit is typically 2 to 4 weeks depending on destination. Local delivery is scheduled within 7 days of completion.
When your piece enters finishing, we will confirm the projected ship date. When the piece is preparing to ship, you will receive carrier information and tracking once available.
Delivery Preparation
Before delivery day, the client is responsible for:
- Confirming the delivery address is accurate
- Measuring all doorways, hallways, stairwells, and elevators on the delivery path to ensure the piece will fit
- Clearing the delivery path and the destination room
- Ensuring an adult 18 or older is present to receive the piece and sign for delivery
If the piece cannot be delivered because access conditions were not communicated in advance — narrow doorways, restricted elevators, stair restrictions, gated communities without scheduled access — the client is responsible for any redelivery, storage, or return-trip fees.
Installation
Atelier HF does not provide installation services directly. For pieces that require installation — wall-mounted headboards, floating benches, custom built-ins — we recommend working with a licensed and insured installer in your area.
We are happy to:
- Provide detailed installation specifications, mounting hardware, and structural documentation
- Coordinate timing with your installer
- Answer technical questions from your installer during the install
- Refer trusted installers in select markets where we have established relationships
The installer you hire is responsible for the installation work itself, including any required permits, structural assessments, and on-site safety. Atelier HF is not liable for installation work performed by third parties.
For trade and hospitality projects, installer coordination is typically handled through your project manager, general contractor, or architect.
International Shipping
We ship internationally on a case-by-case basis.
Before international shipping is confirmed, we verify:
- That the destination country permits import of upholstered furniture and the materials specified in your order
- That applicable customs, certifications, and documentation requirements can be met
- That a suitable freight or white-glove partner serves your destination
International shipping is quoted at the time of order. The quoted price covers transit from our studio to the destination port or address. It does not include:
- Customs duties, taxes, or import tariffs
- Brokerage fees
- Inspection fees
- Any costs imposed by the destination country
These charges are the responsibility of the recipient and are typically collected at delivery by the carrier or local customs authority.
If your order requires international shipping, contact studio@hfatelier.com before placing your order so we can confirm feasibility for your destination.
Carrier Limitations
Once a piece leaves our studio and is in the possession of a freight or delivery carrier, the carrier controls the schedule.
We work with carriers we trust, but we cannot guarantee that they will honor estimated transit times. Weather, port congestion, equipment availability, and routing changes can affect delivery dates. If a significant delay occurs in transit, we will work with the carrier to resolve it and will keep you informed.
The client is responsible for receiving the piece during the scheduled delivery window. If you need to change the delivery address, reschedule, or modify carrier instructions after the piece has shipped, any resulting fees, delays, or damage are the responsibility of the client.
Damage in Transit
If a piece arrives with shipping damage, the client must follow the documentation steps outlined in our Custom Order Terms — note damage on the delivery receipt, photograph before unpacking, and notify the studio in writing within 48 hours of delivery.
Failure to document damage at the time of delivery may limit our ability to file a freight claim.
Delivery to Trade and Hospitality Projects
For trade projects with multiple pieces, hospitality builds, and contractor-coordinated installations, shipping is typically scheduled in coordination with your project manager, general contractor, or designer.
Trade and hospitality projects may include:
- Phased delivery scheduling tied to construction milestones
- Consolidated freight for multiple pieces in a single shipment
- Coordinated installation timing with on-site teams
- Direct coordination with the project's logistics lead
Specifics are confirmed at the time of order and detailed in your project's order acknowledgment.
